Typically, your favorite inspiration drives a mood board. You start collecting rest of your samples based on this inspiration — from catalogs, magazines and from your local DIY shops. Your samples should be proportionate — for example, your sofa being larger in comparison to your accessories. Keep your board casual; look at it as a visual aid to brainstorm your options. Swap your samples until you are pleased with the overall decor. Take this board into the room to check it in different light shades and try to get a feel for it. Invest in the decor once you fall in love with your picks.
I created this mood board for my living room. This room turned out to be on the eclectic side — with an earthy combination of mango wood, capiz shells and a modern sofa. The Devin Terra Hennessey sofa (from Crate and Barrel) started off this mood board 🙂 I promise to add some of my work soon..

I love your mood board and I always loved that west elm coffee table but it’s little low in height for our requirement…

Great to see you here! ya, you are right, the west elm coffee table is not in the center, I’ve it next to my sofa.. where we normally stack magazines. I had the pottery barn dark coffee table, and re-used it in this space.

Hi there, nice post. This is an interesting and very informative topic. Thanks for sharing you thoughts on this issue. Keep it up, looking forward to read another one in the future. Cheers!
It’s true that some of the most striking interior design comes from completely redoing a space with new colors, furniture, and trimmings. Sometimes, however, a change that big is not needed. It may be that your room needs refreshing, rearranging, and a trained interior design eye.
