LED Ribbons

Cove lighting a.k.a. LED ribbons are truly a hidden treasure. It is often used to illuminate theaters, restaurants, bars, malls, museums, meeting halls and so on. I bet you have noticed linear lighting along the stairs leading to your seat in theaters, or colorful ceilings at a bar.. hav’nt you?

This style of linear cum indirect illumination is gradually moving into modern homes as an accent lighting. When installed strategically, light bounces off the ceiling and reflects back evenly. Typically, you would install them above kitchen cabinets or behind architectural details in the ceiling. I’ve several examples for you here, where all you see is an amiable glow. If you don’t have such intricate details, don’t worry, I found a DIY that creates the same effect with simple crown molding:

Cove ribbons cost around $5.00 a foot with a LED light every inch and a half. It has an adhesive backing and it is easy to install. At the same time, it is also energy efficient and lasts forever. Tell me, if this is something you would choose as an accent lighting option for your home? What do you think of my picks here? Look forward to your comments!

  1. WOW! so that’s what they’re called. I was always wondering what kind of lighting does cinemas use, and I’m too tired to search it up. This would be good for bedrooms. Thanks a lot for this.

  2. question…how did you hide the transformer and wiring? I have a barrel ceiling that I am putting a drop down piece in the center and hiding the light there but don’t want to have a plug because you can see it :/ Does the transformer buzz?

  3. I love this kind of lighting strip, the leds give a soft glowing, subtle light! Thank you so much for visiting my little home, I’m your newest follower on Facebook 🙂
