Modern Vintage Room

Vintage is not antique or old anymore. It is called retro in this modern age.  I personally see vintage style as charming, chic, classy, and romantic. Lamps, tables, sofas, chairs, mirrors, and other decorative accessories in this style have tons of details and character. Whereas, modern furniture and accessories are in general are simple and come in clean lines. When you carefully blend them, you can end up with a modern vintage room!

In these rooms below, I see a good balance in the overall design – a nice mix of modern and vintage pieces where one does not overpower the other. In decor, balance is also created by visual equilibrium, meaning colors, textures, and patterns should symmetrically or asymmetrically create harmony in the room.  There is also a huge advantage of mixing one or more styles – each softens the harshness of the other.  This also allows you to create the room that reflects your interests, hobbies and collectibles that you have accumulated all through your life.  With all that said, here’s my round-up. Don’t you think these rooms are sophisticated and modern, with a hint of vintage that makes it so special?

  2. I absolutely love this look! It’s so fun as well searching through little antic shops. Can’t wait to be able to buy stuff like this in the future when I have my own place. I saw your post on the shabby nest frugal friday.

  4. I love vintage look, especially when it comes to household items. Like you said it most cases it is extremely charming.

  5. I love all of these looks and didn’t really see them as vintage, just beautiful and full of character.

  6. We have decorated our house with very modern touches, however, we decorate with whatever we are attracted to no matter what style they are. Although your images are amazing and I wouldn’t mind getting a few of those pieces for our home. Thanks for sharing your post with us.

  7. I am so in love with all of these. Anything that has a feel from the 1920’s through the 1950’s is for me!

  8. I love all of these photos. I like to mix up styles in my rooms. But for the most part, I like contemorary or shabby chic. Not too much into formal or antiques at all. I love the Porttery Barn and Crate and Barrel styles! And I love many Ethan Allen pieces too.
