Style Your Open Shelves

Open shelves are brilliant – they magically attach to a wall to create storage that is visible to everyone! I wouldn’t just stack things on them; I’d style them with cute and colorful accessories. There are tons of things that you could mix and match — your collectibles, vases, clocks, monograms, baskets, art works, books, jars, mugs, plates, canisters, etc.,.  to create a purposeful storage space that contains an amalgam of your favorite items. You have full control to come up with a decor plan that will work for you today, or be rearranged later for your liking. 🙂 That’s really the fun part of combining decor with storage. Couple of thoughts – create some sort of symmetry with your objects, keep scale and balance in mind, group similar items to create harmony, fill in empty spaces as much as possible, have adequate lighting above the shelves, work with the background color, and finally, remember to dust the items regularly.I stumbled upon several beautifully decorated open shelves, so I’ve decided to share just a few to give you an idea.. We have one open shelf in our dining room, and there’s a picture of it in my page on Earthy Brick Walls.

  2. I love these shelving ideas…I just get so intimidated when it comes to decorating! It is overwhelming to know how to pull things together. You have such an eye for it. Thanks for sharing! And thanks for linking up to the Be.YOU.TIful link party!

  3. These are all styled to perfection! I would love more open shelving in my home, but I know they would just started collecting some “not-so-stylish” things 😉 Beautiful though-thanks for sharing!

  4. I keep dreaming about open shelving in my kitchen, but just haven’t decided whether or not I can keep everything clean and tidy. But I do love the look! Thanks for sharing at Fridays Unfolded!

    1. Hello Alison, glad to see your comment. I enjoy visiting link parties and always find interesting sites via yours and others too 🙂

  5. I love our open shelves in our kitchen, but not in our bathroom. I clicked on your post because I need some ideas for styling our long floating shelves in the bathroom, but I think I’m just going to demolish them, because I don’t have an ounce of styling in me. Hah!

  6. As a gift to my sister for her 30th birthday, I hired the team at Classic Kitchen and Bath to remodel her kitchen… you know… give it that modern look we see on HGTV. I learned about them from a buddy of mine in Clarendon Hills, IL. These guys did an exceptional job… from design through execution. They not only have great service but their products are high quality. Check them out today http://www.myclassickitchenandbath.com or visit their amazing showroom in Westmont, IL. I highly recommend them to everyone considering a new kitchen and/or bathroom.

  7. I love open shelves and I got some good ideas from your post…thanks so much. I love to change things up on my shelves and my mantel.

  8. Such great inspiration! I love to restyle the shelving in my home, I find it to be one of the most relaxing things ever plus it’s makes it feel like a whole new space.

    1. ha! yes, I can totally see myself relaxing on restyling an open shelf too 🙂 thank you for stopping by!

  9. I love your inspirations. I have open shelves in my kitchen, and I love them. I don’t have a problem keeping them clean, because all I have out is what is used. If it needs a rinse it gets it. Frankly, it’s dusty here and it makes no difference in the cabinet were closed, some of my closed spaces are the worse.

    1. Thank you so much for your comment. We have had open shelves in our kitchen and it was kind of nice – everything would stay dry all the time and like you said, the items inside the cabinets get dusty too..

  10. Vidya I love the idea but the only challenge is keeping it clean and I can never keep the shelves clutter free:)
