A beautiful garden is a work of heart. It takes planning, research, and dedication to create such a garden. And, it does not happen overnight. As Audrey Hepburn quotes – “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.”. We have always enjoyed lush landscapes and colorful flowers on the ground, but, to experience the same on a rooftop can be an out of the world experience! Scroll down, and try visualizing yourself in these rooftop gardens.
Rooftop gardens are just not beautiful but they are good for nature and humankind. It’s created in space that would otherwise go unutilized. The blue sky might seem a bit closer in these private sanctuaries. These gardens might have more privacy and in some cases, only the owners might have access to these spaces. The building below will most likely be cooler and the air around will be healthier.
There are also problems to deal with when it comes to maintaining rooftop gardens. The roof needs to be built to handle the weight of the planters, soil, and the plants otherwise it might just collapse. Roof gardens require a flat roof – which will not drain rain water like sloping roofs. High winds can blow your plants and that could be a huge issue as well.
You might want to consider the pros and cons well before designing a rooftop garden. And, in most places you would actually need a permit and special inspections before growing plants on your roof. Well, enjoy what I have here for you and leave me a comment how you feel about these spaces.

Gorgeous Page. I wish I had a roof top.
Wow, what a beautiful collection of rooftop gardens! I’ve always wanted to plant my own vegetable and these gorgeous spaces really inspire me to do so.
I love rooftop gardens!! Every time I go to NYC I spend a while spotting them, Thanks for all the cool pictures!
These are gorgeous!! Thank goodness my husband has a green thumb because I would have no clue where to start with creating a garden.
They all look amazing and lovely. Love them all. Amazing!
I’ve always loved the look of rooftop gardens. I always thought it would be so pretty + cool to be able to grab some veggies or herbs and overlook the city. Makes me wish it was Spring so we could work on our garden now!
This is such a NY thing! I would love one but I live in Atlanta…boo!
I especially love the one with the round patch of grass. It looks like it really is possible to put an oasis almost anywhere with a bit of planning, know-how, and money! So many fun ideas.
Oh my goodness these gardens are flawless! I love my garden so if I lived in a high rise this would be something I need.
I am literally DROOLING over these photos. I absolutely love rooftop gardens–especially when they are a part of rooftop bars in Chicago–and these pictures are helping me escape my winter duldrums.
Such a awesome way to create rooftop gardens. All of them are so pretty. Must be nice to sit up there and enjoy the scene.
I would love to have a rooftop garden in my future home, it would be awesome and if it turned out half as good as the images you’ve shared I would be happy.
Ahh these are so cool. It would be amazing having your own little oasis on the roof. The city views on some of these are incredible.
These gardens are stunning! I have plenty of green space to plant a traditional garden but always wind up planting seeds and forgetting to tend them. Will have to get my kids excited about gardening so I can avoid the steep prices of organic veggies this summer.
These are all so pretty! I love that even though people can carve out a bit of nature and beauty in the midst of the urban jungle.
This is so cool! What a great way to bring a little nature to the city. Those are just incredible.
The garden with the wood floor is really pretty. I imagine living in the city a rooftop garden would make a nice reprieve from the landscape of buildings.
WOW! You definitely have a green thumb. It’s absolutely beautiful and to grow a garden on a rooftop… I never realize there were so many things to consider. Guess I never really thought about it. I cannot pick which one is more beautiful than the other because they’re all breath taking. Thank you so much for sharing.
I love a good rooftop garden! These photos are definitely giving me inspiration for (finally) started a garden of my own. The second to last photo is just gorgeous <3
